Who is Region 29??
Most teachers, experienced and new, generally don’t know much about their Teachers’ Association. What they do know is that they are required to pay dues. Most teachers don’t know where those dues dollars go. This leads to questions about the cost of the dues. Through this web page we hope to keep you informed and updated with the latest information regarding issues in education.
Each district has a local association and elected officers that become the glue that holds each of our teams together. Just like any organization IEA has a support staff, the staff is employed by all the teachers in Illinois. Our IEA is an affiliate of the NEA and provides each member direct help through its Field Services Department. Each field service office is composed of field services staff. This staff is the link between members or local leaders and direct assistance provided by the other departments within the organization. Most familiar is the uniserv director. These directors are out in the front line and provide direct and expert assistance in order to support individual members and each local affiliate. The Uniserv director for Region 29 is Larry Petchenik. Most associations use his services principally in bargaining assistance and other technical assistance to local association leaders. Other areas where your leaders would receive assistance are grievance , employee rights adjudication, crisis preparation, school reform uses, communications and community relations. The field services staff is also the link between members or local leaders and other direct assistance provided by the other departments within the organization.
The state is divided into regions. Several regions are grouped together and have field offices with organizers and associate staff. Our office is located in Lombard, Il. . Each region elects a chairperson to meet with state representatives each month to discuss issues of importance to our members. Each month your region representative meets with other representatives from our region to bring these issues to your rep.
